How to Gain More Views on Instagram Stories
If you’re not posting Instagram stories, here is why you need to.
Instagram stories were introduced in August of 2016, following in the footsteps of Snapchat who pioneered the feature. Stories enable users to post content that disappears after 24 hours, and unlike Instagram posts, users aren’t validated by the number of likes they receive instead it’s all about the views. How many people actually watch Instagram stories though? You’d be surprised that at least 70% of Instagram users watch stories daily, potentially because of how easy it is. As noted in a Refinery29 article; “Nighttime is usually when I fall victim to the scroll. I love watching IG stories and will do that while I lie in bed at night.” Instagram allows users to continuously watch stories of the accounts they follow without tapping a button, it’s all automatic. This lends itself to millions of viewers a day watching Instagram stories, with so many users posting, how can you increase your engagement using stories?
Interestingly enough, 73% of Instagram influencers named Instagram stories amongst the most effective content formats for influencer marketing. This is most likely a result of the fact that in 2018, around 15-25% of story viewers selected the “swipe up” button in order to be referred to a link and engage directly with a brand’s website. This is tip #1 for using stories, engage with your followers by recommending items that they can swipe up to buy from Amazon purchases to the top you’re wearing, this allows your followers to feel more connected. A note, however, swipe up links are currently only available for accounts with over 10,000 followers, therefore this suggestion is most applicable to those with a larger audience.
People enjoy watching stories because they can take inspiration from it. Perhaps there is a popular GIF or Instagram sticker that they’ve seen on your account or you’ve hand drawn a design, whichever it is users will be coming back to your page to see how you’ve done it and what’s new.
Use External Apps
You can use external apps to make your stories stand-out. As mentioned before, millions of users upload stories to Instagram, so you have to ask yourself, what makes yours different? Trying out and discovering new photography editing apps is the best way to do so. LucidPix creates 3D images that no other app has been able to reproduce. Another app that is great for Instagram story use is Unfold. The app creates templates that you can use to insert the photos you want to post on your story. With over 10 different templates, you can make your stories look more sophisticated, trendy or old fashioned (whichever you prefer). A feature of the app that works well is the ability to add multiple photos as this is something users aren’t able to do directly with Instagram stories. Use hashtags in your story posts! One of the best ways to get views is to use hashtags that summarise your story. On the Instagram explore pages, if you’re a public account these will appear for other users to see. For example, in the below photo we used #charlidamelio and #home to summarise the image. As a result, we had 76 more viewers from the #charlidamelio story and another 7 from the #home story – that’s an increase of 83!
